Building Green

Stokkers & Company is proud to have built the first LEED Certified home on Long Island. This honor strengthens our recognition as an industry leader with national award winning projects and the respect of some of the finest architects in the country.

LEED Certification is granted by the US Green Building Council. Builders participating in the LEED for Homes Program are recognized as having a commitment to actively promoting the transformation of the mainstream home building industry toward more sustainable practices. The certification process is rigorous. Third party inspections insure that the highest environmental standards are attained focusing on measurable results.

LEED for Homes measures green homebuilding performance based on eight categories: site selection, water efficiency, materials and resources, energy and atmosphere, indoor environmental quality, location and linkages, awareness and education, and innovation.

A sustainable building, or green building is an environmentally responsible, high performance home that is built to exceed the requirements of the building code. The home is the result of a design which focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use — energy, water, and materials — while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal.
